This Sunday, we propose, accompanied by the guide Maria of MAALESA EXCURSIONS, a trek that runs along a path close to the sea, offering a breathtaking view of steep limestone cliffs, coves, beaches and much more.
Not far from Syracuse, in front of the islet of Ortigia extends the Peninsula of La Maddalena or Plemmirio. Because of its strategic position this place plays a fundamental role in the history and identity of the city of Syracuse. The eastern coast, known locally as “Isola”, will welcome us with the intense colors and scents of the Mediterranean: immense expanses of dwarf palm that alternate and mix with thorny broom, shrub thyme, lentisk and much more.
The link between the natural and historical heritage of the place is very close. There are numerous testimonies scattered throughout the territory: latomie, limestone, sepulchres, batteries of the Second World War. Finally, let’s not forget the immense “sentimental and memory” heritage that the place holds.
For those who will have the pleasure, you can also do a nice bath “ottobrino” regenerating in the blue waters ……. in a Sicilian summer that continues in autumn.
We are pleased to share the organization of this experience with MAALESA EXCURSIONS by Maria and Salvo. To guide us we will have Maria Gambino, a naturalistic guide (federescursionismo Sicilia) and great expert of the territory that we will explore.
Length: about 7 km total (including A / R)
Duration: about 5/6 h including stops for explanations and packed lunch. The excursion does not present particular difficulties, but a good disposition to the walk is certainly required.
Difficulty: Easy – Path developed entirely on beaten path.
We recommend wearing extremely comfortable clothing, trekking shoes and the costume (optional) if you wish to take a bath. Bring at least 1.5 liters of water, k-way and hat and lunch bag.
Given the distance, it may be useful for young children to use a baby carrier or a baby carrier bag.

End of excursion around 15: 00/15: 30. Packed lunch.
